Get some booties…

10 Oct

Fall = boots. This fall = booties, the little sisters your boot collection always deserved. Choose daring shades or reliable neutrals. Embellishment options are endless: studs, spikes, buckles, laces or a spot fur.

Booties hug your ankles and accentuate your legs. Show them off with short skirts, ankle pants or flashy leggings.

I just purchased this amazing pair by Christian Siriano for Payless. (They’re even lined with leopard print!)

There’s also affordable finds at DSW and JCPenney. See below for more options and get shopping!

Lessons in leggings

24 Sep

As some of you know, leggings are a favorite fall staple for me – especially on weekends. You can dress them up, dress them down and who doesn’t love a comfy outfit choice?

Although a simple piece, leggings can borderline tacky if worn the wrong way. Here are some of my basic rules…

1. Length is key – The length of your leggings is key, but so is the length of your shirt. Let’s start with the bottoms.

  • Ankle: This is a classy and safe choice for most! Great for dressing up and wearing with heels, especially if you’re shorter. Heels will make your legs appear longer. Ankle length is the best choice for tall women because they accentuate long legs perfectly.
  • Calf: Also a good choice, but probably best for casual outings. Try the calf look with an oversized t-shirt and cute Keds. Avoid wearing dresses. If the hem of your dress almost meets the length of your leggings, what’s the point? They’re just an unnecessary add-on.
  • Knee: This is the tricky one for me. Knee length feels a bit junior, and maybe that’s where it should stay. Perfect for pre-teen and teen closets. This also works for dancers and athletes. Tread carefully.
  • Tops: Longer is better, always. Make sure your top covers your butt (and please no camel toe!) Petite women can get away with short tops, but if you’re in doubt, long is strong.

2. Footwear faves – Shoes are dependent on the rest of your outfit. Sleek black leather leggings and a mustard blazer call for heels. While a bright pink pair and a black tee scream leopard-print flats. You can even get away with sandals and sneakers. Pick strappy flats, Keds or Converse vs. flip flops, athletic sneakers or Crocs.

3. Patterns and prints – Bold and flashy prints are all the rage this fall. Floral, eclectic, polka dots and stripes. Go for them all! Be sure to buy dependable brands. Again, I’d recommend ankle length for flashy prints and keep the top half of your outfit simple! Solid colors, subtle details and quiet accessories.

4. Please avoid – Cheap brands (anything that comes in plastic packaging), plus any pair that look like fake jeans (including fake pockets and all). Don’t do it. Period.

Happy fall, fashionistas!

Photo compliments of

green with envy.

20 Mar

I’ve always had an appreciation for the color green…and I guess today, I can say it’s my favorite color. My career outfits haven’t been anything special these days. Budget crunching (and lent) have kept me from adding to my spring wardrobe. So, I’ve had to reinvent the wheel and go shopping in my own closet every day! But that’s OK. Keeps my mind fresh and agile…full of unique fashion ideas. Because let’s be honest, how many 20-something girls have the money to splurge on Michael Kors and Loubous? If you can, I’m green with envy 😉

OK, back on track. Today, I threw on a green circle-patterned blouse, black capris and some old faithfuls, my kelly green pumps. Nothing I was very proud of, but hey, I was comfy and felt stylish enough. Well, little did I know how much attention my green beauties would bring! Compliments, compliments galore! Even from a few men. I should have known green shoes would make my day. Isn’t that what fashion is all about? Feeling good in what you have on, no matter where it came from?

Spring fever is in full swing, and I’m loving me some kelly green. So if there is nothing else you add to your wardrobe this season, make sure you’ve got color. If green is your thing, then yay! If not, try coral, yellow or royal blue! Be bright, be happy. Try to mix and match shades for unique color-blocking effects. Compliments will surely come your way.

Go Green, ladies.

It all started with a pair of pants…

29 Feb

Spring is so close; I can feel it! (and that’s not because I’m flying to FL next week)! I’m so excited to start wearing bright colors, my fave skirts and this spring’s hottest trend…floral. I can never have enough flowers in my wardrobe (graphic tees, headbands, rings and brooches). And floral prints will fit just perfectly.

As I browsed through this month’s fashion magazines, one pair of pants kept popping up on me. An awesome pair of trousers from H&M. And the best part, they are less than $15! Perfect for any fashionista on a budget, like me! And although I’m challenging myself to give up shopping for Lent, these pants will definitely be on the list after April 8. You can buy them here:

But in the meantime, I took to Polyvore to keep my trendsetting juices flowing…outfit ideas for work, play and date night!

Amazing trends to look forward in Fall 2012. The show definitely gave off a 70s vibe that was both relaxed and sophisticated. Color blocking, fur and earthtones are all in the mix.

My fave pieces were his 3/4 sleeve feminine and flowy dresses. Perfect for work, perfect for play.

Sportin’ casual Sunday

5 Feb

What’s more fitting on SuperBowl Sunday then talking SPORTSWEAR. Pegged as one of spring’s must-have looks, there is a lot of room for interpretation which makes it perfect for any woman. WINNING! So make this trend your own and make it you! Remember it’s comfy and it’s casual, and do not force it too much. Wear what you love!

Some ideas? Black harem pants, your fave graphic tee and an oversized cardigan. Throw on some heels if you are meeting the girls for drinks, or try flats if it’s a shopping day with Mom. Another option, try a collared shirt dress, yellow belt and brown boots. Want to be a little more daring? Find a mesh crop top, pair it with a matching cami and a floral zip-up. Finish the look with jeans and a good ole pair of converse.

Prep your wardrobe for casual Sundays, every day! And the good thing? You can is you can mix and match what’s already in your closet for a WINNING team!

Check out some runway looks, and a look I put together on Polyvore 🙂 happy game day, fanshionistas!
